this was the beginning of last summer, the shortest my hair has ever been! thinking about going back!
My last roommate say studying to become a hairdresser and in the year we lived together while I was debating and gearing up for The Big Chop she was constantly experimenting with new cuts. During many of out conversations about hair she wold often say that whenever she walked into salons she’d just tell the hairdresser “I don’t care what you do with it, just don’t make me look like a lesbo” and it always bothered me. Really, how does one “look like” a sexual preference? It bothers me especially when those types of thought patterns are perpetrated by people *within* that industry. That whole “I don’t mind gay people, I just don’t want to look like a gay person [because on some level I realize society views it as deviant and shameful and] I don’t want people to get the wrong idea.”
People really need to get it through their thick skulls that not only will a haircut have nothing to do with another person’s place on the Kinsey Scale, but that no matter what a person’s place on the Kinsey Scale *is* is irrelevant to their attractiveness or worth as a human being. And this is true *especially* when it comes to women, because women should be free to move about in the world without feeling as if they need to fulfil some sort of ridiculous checklist in order to be “acceptable” in society.
Do whatever you want with your gorgeous locks.
Answer:
I LOVE your new haircut!
The most disappointing thing to me is that girls are being scared into long hair for fear that their hair represents their femininity and “guys like girly girls.” It’s nonsense. You hair is about you and what you want to look like. In the same way that some men grow their hair long and aren’t regarded as entirely feminine (meaning it’s widely accepted to be a masculine thing to do), it shouldn’t be considered offending to a feminine gender role for a woman to wear her hair short.
Also, my favorite phrase of all time, that is quickly becoming a hopeful tattoo, is “There’s more than one way to be a girl.”
oh god i want to cut my hair like this just because i can..
